A new report from Boston Consulting Group, titled "Cities of Choice 4.0," has placed Dubai among the world's top five cities for economic opportunity, the only Middle Eastern city to make that list.
The report, which measures global cities across categories including economic opportunity, social capital, quality of life and digital government, ranked Dubai 12th worldwide for social capital, putting it ahead of every other city in the Middle East on that measure. Dubai also topped the global rankings outright in the "social connections" sub-category, beating out every other city assessed in the study.
BCG analysts attribute Dubai's strong showing to a combination of factors: steady growth in attracting businesses and foreign investment, continuous expansion of infrastructure and public services, and a growing base of skilled professionals choosing to live and work in the city. The firm's researchers say the findings point to the rising international competitiveness of both of the UAE's largest cities, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as global hubs for talent and capital.
Abu Dhabi was also recognised among the world's leading cities in the report, though its specific rankings across individual categories were not broken out in as much detail as Dubai's.
BCG's Cities of Choice report is published periodically and is widely regarded as a benchmark for how cities compare in attracting investors, companies and international talent. Dubai's placement in this edition reinforces its standing as a regional hub for business and quality of life, a reputation the emirate has been actively building through infrastructure investment and policy reform over recent years.
