Ajman University has announced that its student enrolment has surpassed 10,000 for the first time in its history. Founded in 1988, the institution was the first private university established in the Gulf Cooperation Council and has recently converted to non-profit status.
University officials described the milestone as evidence of growing confidence among students and their families in the quality of education and the opportunities available in the UAE. In a statement, the university said the growth "demonstrates continued confidence among students and their families in the quality of higher education and the opportunities available in the UAE."
The university has been working in recent years to strengthen its academic standing, recently entering the QS World University Rankings' top 400 for the first time, in the 2027 edition of the rankings. It hosts students and faculty from the UAE and from around the world, and has placed a growing emphasis on teaching quality, scientific research and the development of emerging academic disciplines.
Administrators said that as enrolment continues to grow, maintaining academic standards, strengthening student support services and improving the overall learning experience will remain priorities going forward.
The milestone comes as the UAE, and cities such as Dubai and Ajman in particular, have increasingly positioned themselves as destinations for international students in recent years — a trend driven in part by residency policies and academic offerings designed to appeal to overseas students and their families.
