Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), together with Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park, has launched a new initiative called the Higher Education Leadership Network (HELN), aimed at keeping universities and colleges more closely aligned with the needs of the job market. the network brings together 13 leaders from industry, government and academia. Founding institutions named so far include the National University of Dubai, University of Birmingham Dubai, University of Wollongong in Dubai, and Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU).
The network is co-chaired by Dr Saeed Mubarak Kharbash of KHDA and Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, who heads Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park. Its work will focus on four core areas: education and upskilling, entrepreneurship and innovation, future economies, and research and development.
Officials behind the initiative said the launch is part of efforts to align Dubai's higher education system with the emirate's D33 economic agenda and its Education 33 (E33) strategy, two flagship plans aimed at making Dubai one of the world's top economies by 2033.
Organisers said the network is intended to create an ongoing dialogue between universities and employers, so graduates enter the workforce with skills matched to real market demand. The move builds on Dubai's broader push to position itself as a regional hub for higher education and innovation, connecting academic output more directly to the emirate's long-term economic goals.
