Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened the fifth and final bridge of its World Trade Centre Roundabout development project on Thursday, completing a five-year effort to ease congestion at one of the city's busiest intersections.
The one-kilometre, two-lane bridge links Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street, carrying roughly 3,000 vehicles per hour. RTA said the new bridge cuts direct travel time through the junction from six minutes to just one minute, while overall intersection delays drop from 12 minutes to 90 seconds.
The World Trade Centre Roundabout sits at the crossing of Sheikh Zayed Road with five major streets, serving as a key access point for Dubai World Trade Centre, DIFC, Downtown Dubai and Deira. The full five-bridge project cost Dh696 million and is expected to benefit more than 500,000 residents and visitors.
RTA officials say the project reflects a broader strategy of upgrading road infrastructure in Dubai's commercial core to keep pace with the emirate's growing population and visitor numbers, as congestion at major interchanges has become a persistent challenge for commuters heading into the business districts surrounding Sheikh Zayed Road.
