Dubai Police confiscated 408 light vehicles, including 300 electric scooters, 50 e-bikes and 58 regular bicycles, during a road-safety operation in the Naif area near the Gold Souk, authorities said on Monday.

The crackdown, led by Naif Police Station, targeted unsafe riding practices that officers say have become increasingly common as e-scooters and e-bikes grow in popularity among residents and delivery riders across Dubai. Alongside the seizures, more than 932 people took part in awareness sessions on traffic rules during the campaign.

Brigadier Omar Mousa Ashour, director of Naif Police Station, said Dubai Police places strong emphasis on traffic awareness as part of its broader efforts to cut accidents and improve road safety in busy commercial districts. He warned that riders using scooters and bicycles outside designated lanes risk confusing motorists and raising the likelihood of collisions.

Officers used the campaign to remind riders of the rules governing where such vehicles may operate, urging them to stick to marked paths and wear protective gear, including helmets. The initiative forms part of a wider enforcement push across Dubai's older, densely populated commercial neighbourhoods, where foot and vehicle traffic often mix with delivery riders.

Dubai Police did not say how many riders, if any, were fined during the operation, but indicated similar campaigns will continue on a rolling basis in different parts of the city to ensure riders of light vehicles comply fully with traffic regulations. The force has repeatedly flagged the risks posed by scooters and bikes travelling on pavements and main roads in recent months.
