Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reported that 196,042 new vehicles were registered in the city during the first half of this year, averaging more than 1,000 registrations a day and roughly 32,000 a month.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the RTA's Licensing Agency, said the sustained rise in vehicle registrations reflects Dubai's rapid population growth, ongoing urban expansion and continued economic momentum. He added that the authority has been scaling up its inspection infrastructure and adopting newer technologies to keep pace with growing demand from residents and businesses alike. Dubai currently operates 30 vehicle testing centres, with plans to expand that network to 35 by 2030 to handle the rising volume of inspections. The authority said it is increasingly relying on artificial intelligence, machine learning and electronic data-sharing systems to speed up and improve the accuracy of vehicle inspections. Updated testing standards tailored specifically to electric vehicles have also been rolled out recently as EV ownership climbs across the emirate.

Alongside the registration figures, the RTA highlighted an ongoing project converting Al Satwa roundabout into a smart intersection, which officials expect will cut journey times through the area by up to 50 per cent and reduce traffic queues during peak hours by as much as 60 per cent. Authorities described the vehicle data and the roundabout upgrade as part of a wider effort to align Dubai's transport infrastructure with its fast-growing population and economy, ensuring the road network keeps up as more residents, workers and vehicles arrive in the city.
