Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority, working alongside Dubai Police, has announced a new set of restrictions on heavy vehicles that will take effect from Thursday, October 1. Under the plan, lorries will be barred from Sheikh Zayed Road and Beirut Street between 6am and 10pm daily. On Al Meydan Street, Al Qudra Street, the Airport Tunnel and all connecting crossings, the ban will apply around the clock. Residential areas including Oud Al Muteena, Muhaisnah and Al Mizhar will see the same daytime restriction, from 6am to 10pm. On Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road between Ras Al Khor Road and the Sharjah border, as well as on Damascus Street, Amman Street and Airport Street, the restriction will only apply during three peak windows: 6:30am to 8:30am, 1:30pm to 3:30pm, and 5:30pm to 8pm. Officials say the move is designed to ease congestion, improve the efficiency of the emirate's transport and logistics network, and enhance road safety during the busiest hours of the day. According to the RTA, roughly 150,000 heavy goods vehicles use Dubai's roads every month, and the authority operates 16 truck rest areas offering more than 1,000 parking spaces across the city. Emirates Road, known as E611, has been left out of the new restrictions, giving lorry drivers an alternative route that remains open at all hours. The measure forms part of a wider push by Dubai to modernise how heavy traffic moves through the city as both population and commercial activity continue to grow.
