A new covered pedestrian bridge linking Dubai Metro to the Etihad Rail network opened on Thursday, October 15, offering commuters a seamless five-to-seven-minute walk between the two systems without needing a taxi, bus, or outdoor transfer.

The bridge connects Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station, on the Red Line, directly to Al Yalayis Etihad Rail Station via exits 1 and 2 of the metro station. It is fitted with escalators and moving walkways, along with clear directional signage throughout the enclosed route, according to Khaleej Times. A shuttle bus service remains available for those who prefer it.

Al Yalayis Station began passenger operations on September 30, and the new bridge now ties it fully into Dubai's Red Line as well as RTA bus services, effectively turning the interchange into a three-mode hub combining metro, intercity rail and buses. Etihad Rail's passenger routes extend to Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, making the connection a notable addition for residents and travellers moving between emirates.

The project reflects Dubai's broader push to knit its public transport network together and reduce reliance on private vehicles, particularly along busy corridors linking the emirates. Officials have framed car-free interchanges like this one as central to making multi-modal journeys more convenient, especially for commuters and travellers who previously needed a taxi or private transfer to bridge the gap between the metro and the national rail line.
