Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has been named winner of the inaugural Dubai IT Award in the government institutions category, Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Sheikh Hamdan said the RTA was chosen for its "outstanding performance in projects undertaken to develop the transport system in the city and serve its residents," calling the achievement "exceptional, delivered in record time and with high quality."

Among the figures cited around the award, Dubai Metro's scheduling accuracy stood out at 99.7 percent, meaning trains run almost exactly on their published timetable. Officials also noted that the RTA's major infrastructure projects are being delivered at roughly twice the pace of global industry benchmarks.

In recent years the authority has expanded the city's cycling path network while simultaneously pushing into autonomous transport technology, a combination that, alongside its digital transformation efforts, weighed heavily in the award decision.

The recognition comes as Dubai rolls out a string of transport-tech initiatives this year, including the ongoing trial of driverless pods. For residents, the headline figure is simple: a metro system that keeps to its schedule almost without exception, built on infrastructure projects completed faster than international peers typically manage, reinforcing Dubai's standing as one of the world's most digitally advanced public transport operators.
