UAE authorities have clarified the 2026 rules for family residency sponsorship, allowing residents holding a valid UAE residence visa — whether employees or investors — to bring their spouse, children, and in some cases parents to live with them in the country.
Under current regulations, any resident with a valid UAE visa can sponsor a spouse and children under 25 regardless of job title, provided they earn at least AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 plus employer-provided accommodation. Unmarried daughters are exempt from the age cap. Sponsoring parents requires a considerably higher income, generally around AED 20,000 a month, along with a refundable deposit and mandatory health insurance for each parent.
One detail that often catches applicants off guard: the sponsor's residence visa and Emirates ID must be fully active before a family sponsorship file can even be opened — a pending or entry-permit status is not enough. Sponsors who are business partners or owners must additionally submit a partnership contract, a valid trade licence, and the partners' appendix.
Golden Visa holders follow a separate, more flexible track: they can sponsor their family with no minimum salary requirement, and dependents receive the same renewable 10-year residency. Across all sponsorship routes, applicants need an attested marriage certificate, a tenancy contract sized appropriately for the family, and a medical fitness test for anyone over 18. Processing typically takes three to seven working days through the relevant authority in each emirate.
