UAE authorities say they foiled 14 separate attempts to smuggle more than 300 kilograms of narcotics into the country over a period of less than two months, in a joint operation involving the National Anti-Narcotics Agency, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.
Officials said close coordination between the agencies was central to the success of the operations. Investigators used advanced data analysis to track and flag suspicious shipments before they reached UAE borders, allowing security teams to intercept consignments at the earliest possible stage.
Several suspects of European and Asian nationality were arrested during the operations on suspicion of attempting to smuggle drugs into the country. Authorities also disclosed that smart detection equipment fitted with advanced sensors is now deployed at UAE airports, enabling officers to flag suspicious materials concealed inside passengers' luggage more quickly.
The arrests form part of a broader UAE strategy to counter international drug trafficking networks that frequently attempt to exploit the country's position as a transit hub between Asia, Europe and Africa. Officials stressed that airports and ports across the Emirates have been equipped with some of the latest detection technologies available.
Security analysts note that improved coordination between domestic agencies, combined with data-driven screening tools, has markedly strengthened the UAE's ability to identify high-risk shipments before they cross into the country. Authorities say similar levels of inter-agency cooperation and vigilance will continue in the coming months as part of ongoing anti-narcotics efforts.
