Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai has announced it has successfully carried out its 100th kidney transplant, a milestone achieved through a decade-long partnership with Dubai Health and the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) that began in 2016. the programme has recorded a 97 per cent one-year patient survival rate and a 95 per cent one-year graft survival rate — outcomes the hospital says compare favourably with international benchmarks.

Hein van Eck, CEO of Mediclinic Middle East, attributed the achievement to the hospital's multidisciplinary transplant team. Dr Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health and president of MBRU, highlighted the partnership's role in strengthening the UAE's integrated national organ donation and transplantation system.

Dr Raja Easa Al Gurg, a Dubai Health board member, and Dr Amin Al Amiri, assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and Prevention, were also present at the milestone event. Dr Ali Al Obaidli, chairman of the UAE National Transplant Committee, stressed the role of the Hayat programme in coordinating organ donors nationwide.

To mark the occasion, the hospital unveiled a commemorative tree bearing 100 golden leaves, each representing a patient who received a new kidney through the programme. Mediclinic City Hospital officials said the transplant programme will continue expanding to increase Dubai's organ transplant capacity and shorten patient waiting lists.
