Dubai developer Nakheel has awarded a marine works contract covering the western shoreline of Dubai Islands to Mar Marine & Building Contracting LLC. Under the deal, roughly three kilometres of the island's western coastline will be upgraded, with 320 metres of new beach frontage added near the Bay Villas development.

Project officials said the scope of work includes building new breakwaters and reshaping the beach alongside refurbishing existing coastal sections. Khalid Al Malik, chief executive of Dubai Holding Real Estate, said the investment reflects the company's commitment to delivering "a high-quality coastal environment" for residents and visitors across its waterfront communities. Nabil Abou Rjaili, general manager of Mar Marine, said the works would combine new breakwater construction with beach formation and the restoration of existing shoreline sections.

Completion of the marine package is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027. The award follows earlier contracts already placed for villa construction in the same area, as Dubai Islands continues to take shape as one of the emirate's major waterfront developments, combining residential units with retail and tourism facilities.

Industry observers tracking Dubai's coastal real estate market say the quality of shoreline infrastructure and the creation of dedicated beach frontage have become key differentiators for buyers evaluating waterfront projects, directly influencing resale value and demand. The latest award signals that major UAE developers continue to prioritise substantial investment in marine infrastructure and coastal environmental quality as a core part of their master-planned island communities, rather than treating it as an afterthought once residential and commercial construction is complete.
