Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix will both go ahead as scheduled, putting to rest weeks of speculation that the season-closing Abu Dhabi race could be moved to Imola in Italy.
Under the current calendar, the Qatar Grand Prix will take place on November 29, followed by the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit on December 6. "Based on the information we have, everything is confirmed for us to stay in Qatar and Abu Dhabi," Domenicali said, adding that teams and drivers have already been informed of the decision.
Domenicali also revealed that 99 per cent of tickets for the Abu Dhabi finale have already been sold, describing the atmosphere around the season's climax as one of "great excitement." The race is shaping up to be decisive: championship leader Kimi Antonelli currently holds 320 points, with George Russell trailing by 84 points heading into the final rounds, meaning the title fight could run all the way to Abu Dhabi.
Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton welcomed the confirmation, saying he personally enjoys racing in the region: "I personally want to go. I love going to the Middle East."
The announcement ends uncertainty that had built up in recent weeks over the closing rounds of the calendar, and confirms Abu Dhabi's continued role as Formula 1's traditional season finale at Yas Marina Circuit.
