Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan made cricket history on Thursday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, becoming the first bowler ever to reach 200 wickets in T20 International cricket after dismissing Zimbabwe opener Tadiwanashe Marumani.

The milestone came during the second T20I between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in Sharjah. Rashid, just 28 years old, reached the mark in his 120th T20I appearance, a stark contrast to England's Adil Rashid, the previous record-holder, who needed 153 matches to accumulate 171 wickets. Rashid Khan therefore broke the record in 33 fewer games than his English namesake.

Rashid Khan made his T20I debut for Afghanistan back in 2015 in a match against Zimbabwe, the same opponent he faced when setting this latest record more than a decade later. Since his debut, he has established himself as one of the most feared spin bowlers in world cricket, becoming a fixture in major T20 leagues around the globe alongside his national team duties.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the venue for the historic wicket, has long served as one of the UAE's premier venues for international cricket, regularly hosting fixtures involving Asian cricketing nations. The ground's long association with top-level matches added to the significance of the moment, drawing renewed attention from international cricket media to the stadium's role in the sport.

Cricket analysts have described Rashid's achievement as a testament to his remarkable consistency and skill over roughly a decade at the top level of the game. Given his relatively young age, many expect him to extend the record considerably further in the coming years, cementing his status as one of the format's most dominant bowlers of his generation.
