Emirati showjumper Sheikha Latifa bint Ahmed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, 41, claimed her fourth Asian Games medal in October 2026 at the Aichi-Nagoya Games in Japan — exactly 20 years after winning her first at Doha 2006.
Based in Germany, Sheikha Latifa took team silver in showjumping this time around with her stallion Cornet XL. She had previously won individual and team silver medals at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
One of the UAE's first female Olympians, Sheikha Latifa competed at the Beijing 2008 Games. She is now setting her sights on qualifying for Los Angeles 2028, again with Cornet XL. "I think I really have a fantastic horse and we're a great combination, me and him. We're going to try, Inshallah," she said.
Reflecting on two decades at the top of her sport, she added: "It's in our DNA... I don't ever think we'd want to stop. We'd always have something to do with it."
Her sustained success across 20 years has made Sheikha Latifa one of the most enduring figures in Emirati and regional equestrian sport, and a role model for a new generation of UAE women in showjumping.
