Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the Oud Maitha Street and Al Asayel Street development project, cutting travel time on the busy corridor from 20 minutes to just five minutes — a 75 per cent reduction.
RTA Director-General and Chairman Mattar Al Tayer said the project raises the street's capacity from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions, a 50 per cent increase, while delivering the sharp cut in journey time.
The works cover 14 kilometres of roads, four upgraded intersections, and a combined 4.3 kilometres of bridges and tunnels. The improved network serves Oud Maitha, Al Jaddaf, Umm Hurair and Zaabeel, and eases access to Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club.
RTA said the population served by the upgraded corridor is expected to exceed 420,000 residents by 2030, underscoring the project's role in Dubai's long-term plan to manage growth and traffic in its central districts.
The development is part of RTA's broader strategy to shorten journey times across Dubai and improve traffic flow on routes linking residential, medical and sports facilities. Authorities have completed similar upgrades on other corridors in recent years, all aimed at easing congestion and improving road safety for residents and commuters alike.
