Dubai Police announced the arrest of six suspects linked to a fraud scheme worth Dh2.6 million, combining stolen cash and cryptocurrency. According to the force's General Department of Criminal Investigation, the haul included Dh2 million in cash and Dh600,000 worth of digital currency.

Investigators said the victim had approached an unlicensed currency exchange intending to buy cryptocurrency. After agreeing on terms with gang members, the victim transferred his digital assets into decentralized wallets controlled by the suspects, who then seized the cash on hand and fled the scene, banking on the difficulty of tracing the owners of crypto wallets.

Police said a specialized technical team used advanced blockchain analysis to trace the stolen digital assets, managing to locate and secure them before the suspects could move the funds further or convert them into untraceable holdings.

The case highlights the risks tied to unlicensed cryptocurrency exchanges operating in the UAE. Dubai Police routinely warn residents to deal only with officially licensed platforms and exchanges for buying or selling digital currency, and to avoid handing over cash or crypto assets to unknown individuals during in-person transactions.

Authorities also urged the public to immediately report any suspicious cryptocurrency offers or requests to transfer assets into unfamiliar wallets. The investigation remains ongoing, with police continuing efforts to determine whether additional individuals were involved in the scheme.
