Dubai has officially launched Dubai Mobility Labs, a new testing hub for autonomous vehicles located in Dubai Silicon Oasis, as part of the emirate's push to make 25 per cent of all mobility journeys driverless by 2030.
The facility was developed by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in partnership with the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), with German firm DEKRA managing operations for the first three years. the hub covers 248 distinct testing scenarios: 195 in a controlled environment - made up of 143 original scenarios plus 52 newly added ones - and 53 scenarios on public roads extending toward Al Qudra. Three 60kW electric vehicle chargers have also been installed on site.
Companies including WeRide, Pony.ai and Tesla have already tested their self-driving technologies at the facility.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of the RTA, described the launch as "a practical manifestation of the directives of the wise leadership to reinforce Dubai's leadership in developing and adopting future technologies."
Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, said the project aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to build "a globally competitive, knowledge- and innovation-driven economy."
The launch is the latest step in Dubai's long-running strategy to position itself among the world's leaders in autonomous mobility, and is expected to accelerate progress toward the 2030 driverless-journey target as more companies bring their fleets to the controlled and public-road testing environments RTA has built for this purpose.
