Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will adjust speed limits on five major roads starting November 1, raising limits on three roads while lowering them on two others, with the changes applying in both directions.

Under the update, the speed limit on Al Asayel Street, between Oud Metha and Al Meydan, rises from 60 km/h to 80 km/h. On Al Mustaqbal Street, between the Sheikh Rashid area and Al Meydan, the limit increases from 60 km/h to 70 km/h, and on Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, linking Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, it also moves up from 60 km/h to 70 km/h.

Two other roads will see lower limits. On Al Rebat Street, between the Marrakech area and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, the speed limit drops from 100 km/h to 90 km/h, while on Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street, between 2nd December Street and Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street, it falls from 80 km/h to 70 km/h.

The RTA said the changes follow a detailed engineering and technical study carried out over several months in cooperation with an international consultancy, aimed at aligning posted limits with actual traffic flow, congestion levels and the safety of drivers and pedestrians along each corridor.

Ahead of the switch, the authority will update speed cameras and road signage on all five streets so motorists are informed of the new limits before they take effect. Drivers using these roads are advised to watch for the new signage from November 1, as exceeding the posted limit will be subject to the usual traffic fines.

The adjustment is part of the RTA's ongoing programme to fine-tune speed limits across Dubai's road network based on real-world traffic data and engineering assessments.
