Dubai Police has warned drivers of possible traffic slowdowns on Sunday, October 4, as the city hosts the 80-kilometre "Proud of UAE" cycling race. The event starts at 6am from Nad Al Sheba Centre and is expected to run until roughly 8:30am.
The race is organised by Dubai Police General Command in partnership with the UAE Cycling Federation, Dubai Sports Council and Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Winners will share a prize pool of AED 140,000.
The RTA has urged motorists travelling near the race route during the early morning hours to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and follow temporary signage and instructions from police officers stationed along the course. Lane closures or reduced speeds near the cyclists' path are also possible during the event window.
The race forms part of Dubai's broader push to encourage cycling and healthy, active lifestyles, and typically draws strong participation from endurance-sport enthusiasts across the UAE. Residents and commuters with routes passing near Nad Al Sheba or along the race track on Sunday morning are advised to budget extra time or consider alternative roads to avoid unexpected delays.
Authorities say the safety of both cyclists and motorists remains the top priority throughout the event, and have thanked the public in advance for their cooperation in ensuring the race runs smoothly. Similar large-scale cycling and endurance events have become a regular fixture on Dubai's sporting calendar, often requiring short-term adjustments to traffic flow on affected roads. Drivers unfamiliar with the Nad Al Sheba area in particular should take note, as the start and finish zones around the centre are likely to see the heaviest congestion during the race's peak hours on Sunday morning.
